Venezuela order continues Sepura’s growth in South America

Sepura has won a contract in Venezuela to provide TETRA digital radios in an initiative to improve the public security and social needs of the Orinoco delta region.

Inusual, Sepura’s partner in Venezuela, secured the order which continues Sepura’s growth in Latin America after other recent sales wins in Mexico, Panama, Peru and Brazil.

The Estado Delta Amacuro regionalgovernment commissioned a TETRA network to assist police and local community leaders in this large area at the head of the Orinoco, South America’s second longest river. The radios will transform communications in the region’s main city of Tucupitaand with nomadic and permanent communities in the delta’s swamp and jungle hinterland.

Tim Mills, Sepura’s Regional Manager for South America, said: “It’s an important milestone to gain such an order in Venezuela, and is a further example of our development in Latin America. It also illustrates the widening range of uses of Sepura’s radios.”

Willburg Castro, Director General of Inusual, said: “Sepura radios provide the essential communication needs for both the police and the communities. The radios are robust, easy to operate and Sepura’s Gateway technology ensures the network can be maintained in blackspots of coverage. The GPS module within the radios means their location can be constantly monitored, too.”

Precise location is essential in the event of any emergency in a region of 40,000 km2 where some communities are hundreds of miles from any hospital and transport links are difficult.

Each community will be given a Sepura radio along with a training programme to ensure they can gain maximum use from their radio, providing them with a lifeline to emergency and medical services. Those living among the swamps and jungle suffer from extensive illness to children and threats from drugs gangs making their route to the sea.
