Thales selected to provide radio communications solutions for two
new metro lines in Latin America
Tetra World Congress, Budapest, 25 May 2011 Thales has been selected to provide
Tetra radio communications systems for two new metro lines in Santo Domingo and
Panama. The Thaless Tetra solution, called DigiM@x, offers secure communications
for onboard, ground-based and operations dispatching.
Offering comprehensive transportation solutions, including telecommunication systems,
signalling supervision and ticketing, Thales holds a strong position in Latin America,
illustrated by successful project deliveries for the Caracas, Santiago de Chile and Santo
Domingo metros and the suburban line in Mexico.
Thales chosen to supply the radio communication system for Santo Domingo’s line 2
Thales has been selected to deliver its DigiM@x solution for the radio communication system
of Santo Domingos metro line 2, which will be operational in 2012. Through this new
contract, OPRET the Dominican Republic mass transit operator has renewed its
confidence in Thaless Tetra solutions following the successful deployment of line 1.
The 20-km line 2 is expected to carry approximately 270,000 passengers per day and will be
interconnected with line 1. The Tetra management system for line 1 and line 2 will be shared,
providing the railway operator with full interoperability between the two lines.
Thales to provide radio communication system for Panamas Metro
Thales has been selected to supply its DigiM@x Tetra solution for the supervision and
telecommunications systems of Panama Citys first metro line. Approximately 14 km long, the
line will be equipped with 11 Tetra radio sites.
With 1.7 million inhabitants, Panama is the most modern and dynamic city in the region. The
new metro line, scheduled to open in 2013, will improve traffic flow in the capital.
Digim@x, a flexible and scalable PMR solution.
The DigiM@x solution comprises a fully distributed architecture based on IP-technology
offering many benefits: user-friendly management system, improved network efficiency, and
simplified roll-out of new services (geolocation applications for activity segments, etc.). Using
Thales’s innovative DigiM@x technology, Tetra radio communications system will provide the
metros with a secure network across all stations and lines.
Following recent Tetra contracts signed with French Railways SNCF and Mecca Metro, these
new successes strengthen Thaless leading position in the transportation sector.
