The spanish manufacturer Teltronic has been awarded with the contract to supply the TETRA infrastructure for the Moscow-St. Petersburg Railway. The system consists of 51 base stations, 4 carriers each, 2 redundant switches and several gateways to meet local requirements.

Teltronic’s russian partners Globalsvyaz, main contractor, and Microtest, engineering, will build, assemble and commission the system in the field. Specific interfaces have been designed to custom oriented, locally developed, line dispatching facilities. Also, strict SORM specifications to allow a comprehensive call monitoring capability have been implemented by Teltronic and its partners. Moreover, full integration into the Russian Railway procedures and existing systems is provided.

The Russian Railway is the first one in the world on taking the decision to adopt TETRA instead of GSM-R, and the Moscow-St. Petersburg line, with a lenght of about 800 km, will be the showcase very soon. The first phase of the project, including the 2 redundant switches and the first 19 base stations, has been delivered already. With respect to terminals, the well proven Teltronic dual TETRA-VHF solution for Metros has been adapted to meet the requirements of the Russian Railway. Different configurations will ensure the best performance with different types of locomotives and trains.
