Swedish transport operator chooses Sepura radios
Connex, one of Sweden’s major transport organisations, has chosen Sepura TETRA radios for use on its buses in the city of Ume in mid-north Sweden.
Sepura terminals are part of a TETRA solution that will replace Connex’ aging analogue communication system. Swedish Radio Supply AB (SRS), Sepura’s long-standing distributor in Scandinavia, together with its partner LTS, will jointly deliver the new communication system. Complete roll-out is expected by June 2007.
Sepura’s SRH3800 hand-held and SRM3500 vehicle radios will operate on Damm’s TETRA infrastructure:the vehicle radios, all with GPS, will be installed in the buses, whilst the hand-held terminals will be used by Connex’ service personnel.
Sepura’s vehicle terminals will enable the transmission of GPS data from buses to an AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location) system, providing real time information on bus locations and activity, plus statistics for route analysis and route optimisation. The radios will also allow direct voice communications between the control room and bus drivers. The ability to know where any bus is at any time via GPS positioning provides further safeguards for bus drivers and bus passengers in emergency situations.
Lars-Gunnar Gydemo from SRS said: “The new TETRA system installed for Connex is scaleable and flexible; its reliability will enable the transport operator to maintain its outstanding levels of service. Our partnership with Sepura andour joint expertise have proven successful once again with public transport customers: this win confirms that our solutions are ideal for the demanding needs of this sector”. Mr Gydemo went on to add: “Connex chose Sepura’s mobile terminals because of their dual data ports and the multiple installation options as these features make the radios the most flexible on the market today”.
Hakan Aberg, Business Development Manager for Sepura said: “We are extremely pleased to add Connex to our growing world-wide public transport customer base, which already includes the transport authorities of Goteborg – also won in conjunction with SRS – Moscow, Madrid and Hong Kong”.
