Sepura TETRA arrives in New Zealand

13 February 2008

For the first time, Sepura digital radios are to be deployed inNew Zealand, where a TETRA service is being launched by network operator Airwaves Limited.

Airwaves will initially provide Auckland-wide network coverage and plans to roll out to major cities as well as key transport corridors.

“We’re targeting organisations needing one-to-one and one-to-many communications,” says William Waterworth, director of Airwaves. “We are seeing interest in TETRA from local governments, passenger and cargo transportation services, utility companies and manufacturing and production sites and even trade contractor services.”

“We selected TETRA for our Airwaves’ network because the standard is widely supported by manufacturers worldwide. Moreover, it is truly versatile, bringing together mobile telephony, mobile radio and mobile data, meaning we can provide organisations with a comprehensive communications solution.”

Airwaves directors William Waterworth and David Wall have almost 40 years experience in the telecommunications industry between them. Waterworth launched the first TETRA network inAustralia (2006) as General Manager of Zeon Digital, a Motorola owned and operated network.

Kevin Graham, Sepura’s Regional Director forAsia and the Pacific, said: “This is excellent news for the expansion of TETRA inAustralasia, and it continues Sepura’s market progress in the region. It’s the third time in recent months that we have extended our customer base in to new countries, following recent orders inAustralia and thePhilippines.”
