Sepura radios keep the race on the road at NW200
12th October 2009 – For the second consecutive year, Sepura supplied TETRA radios to Arqiva Ireland, which operates the on-course communications network for the Kennedy Group International North West 200, Ireland’s largest road race.
The radios were deployed to the event organisers, including the Clerk of Course – the most senior event representative. Race controllers, medical and emergency teams, cleaning staff and the teams in charge of security and maintenance also benefited from the use of Sepura’s technology as part of the on-course communications network.
The communications solution provided by Arqiva and Sepura in 2008 had been the first commercial TETRA system to be implemented in Northern Ireland. Sepura TETRA radios were selected because of their ability to provide improved speech quality and enhanced coverage.
The International North West 200 is Ireland’s largest outdoor sporting event, attracting crowds in excess of 150,000. Taking place annually in May, the International North West 200 circuit runs between the towns of Portrush, Portstewart and Coleraine – an area of outstanding natural beauty and home to the world famous Giant’s Causeway.
Jonathan Hamill, Sepura’s Business Development Manager for Ireland, said: “We were delighted to support Arqiva and the North West 200 race again. For the second year running our radios delivered outstanding performance to all users. In addition, our proven experience with many other high-profile sporting events world-wide has undoubtedly also been a contributing factor towards the smooth running of this exciting race”.
Pat Walls, General Manager for Arqiva in Ireland, said: “Behind-the-scenes management and logistics are crucial in delivering successful public events. We have been especially pleased with the way in which Sepura and its products have been able to support the on-course communications requirements of the North West 200 for the last two years.”
Richard Redgrave, Regional Sales Director for Sepura concluded: “We are witnessing the dawn of a new era for digital communications in Ireland and look forward to the progressive uptake of TETRA by many more organisations from a variety of sectors”.
