Sepura lands at two Canaries Islands’ Airports

The Canaries Islands’ airports of Grand Canaria and Lanzarote have selected Sepura radios to operate on their new TETRA digital communication infrastructures. Both contracts were made possible by Sepura’s Spanish partner Telvent – the Global Real Time IT Company – which closed the deals with Aeropuertos Espaoles y Navegacin Area (AENA), Spain’s airport operator.

AENA selected Sepura’s STP hand-portable and SRG mobile gateway radios for the two Canaries Islands’ airports. The terminals will be used by maintenance and security staff, fire brigades, baggage handling, air traffic control and cleaning services personnel.

Manuel Gonzalez Relao, Business Development Manager for Telvent said: “Thanks to their 1.8 Watts output power, Sepura STPs will enable coverage in indoor areas such as basements and tunnels. In addition, the hand-portables’ powerful loudspeaker will facilitate clearer communications, whilst their IP55 rating already makes them ideal for an airport’s noisy and harsh environment. User safety, in Gran Canaria in particular, will be enhanced by the hand-portables’ accurate GPS as it will enable operators to pin-point the exact position of a radio user in case of emergency”.

Gonzalez Relao added:”Sepura’s SRG mobile gateways will allow extended coverage beyond the airport boundaries and the Repeater functionality will be particularly beneficial to the Fire Brigades as it provides a greater effective communication range to all participating radios”.
Emanuele Algieri, Regional Sales Director for Sepura, commented “These two contracts demonstrate our strong partnership with Telvent as they follow the successful deals with AENA for the airports of Madrid and Ibiza. Telvent’s targeted customer proposal highlighted Sepura radios’ unique features and was instrumental to these latest successes. Gran Canaria and Lanzarote are not only the first Canary Islands Airports to migrate to TETRA, but are indeed the first airports in Spain with a full fleet of Sepura STP terminals. We are confident that our radios will deliver the high levels of performance demanded by these airports in order to meet the challenges posed by the seasonal nature of their business”.

Gonzalez Relao from Telvent concluded: “Our long-term partnership with Sepura has enabled us to become the leading supplier of TETRA radios and applications to AENA. The airports of Gran Canaria and Lanzarote willbenefit from the unique features of Sepura radios which have already been shown to perform successfully in the highly demanding environments of Madrid-Barajas and Ibiza airports”.
