Sepura helps drive Greek taxi firm to greater efficiency

Volos City Taxi, a privately owned taxi company in Greece, has chosen Sepura TETRA technology to help boost operational efficiency. Its entire fleet is now equipped with Sepura SRM2000 Mobile Radios with integrated GPS. The contract was won in conjunction with ANCO, one of Sepura’s authorised distributors in Greece.

Previously, Volos City Taxi used VHF radios to manage communications between its control centre and drivers. The move to a digital in-vehicle TETRA-based communications solution now delivers enhanced radio coverage as well as powerful data communications.

Automated GPS tracking provides Volos City Taxi with data that lets then plan routes and improve resource management. This functionality has already generated significant performance improvements for the company.

“The objective was to improve productivity across the fleet,” states Gregory Papakonstantinou, Manager of Radio Communications at ANCO. “Volos City Taxi expects to achieve at least a 30% increase in job throughput as a result of its investment in TETRA technology. In addition, the TAXI dispatching and AVL software application, which takes advantage of the SRM2000’s flexible PEI, was developed by ANCO with this objective in mind”.

Sepura’s SRM2000 mobile radios, which will operate on the 410-430 MHz frequency, were selected as a cost-effective solution to the need for improved communications and efficiency. These radios are designed specifically to meet the needs of transportation and telemetry customers. In addition, the availability of local pre-sales and after-sales support from ANCO was also influential in the purchase decision.
