SELEX Communications: secure communications for Police patron’s day in Calabria region, Italy
In Calabria region (Italy), in the heart of Aspromonte, SELEX Communications, a Finmeccanica company, guaranteed communications and security of the event dedicated to the Police Force’s patron, St Michael Archangel. The event took place on the 19th of September in Polsi, close to Reggio Calabria.
SELEX Communications, working alongside Police Forces again, created on this occasion a radio coverage of the area, by using a transportable radio base station in order to provide communications in uncovered areas or for emergencies. SELEX Communications carried out an effective coordination between the men involved in the event security settlement. The service has been activated in record time: less than six days, in such an impracticable place as Aspromonte gorge, an area without any analog and digital, private or public communication system.
Several civil and religious authorities took part at this event organized in order to remind Police committment in fighting against the organized crime day after day. All personalities involved in the ceremony showed their satisfaction towards the security system implemented. This represents another on-the field result, in addition to other important activities carried out by SELEX Communications, after the testing successfully performed – within the Italian TETRA Inter-police Program (PIT), for a Police forces national network – in the other provinces of the Calabria region.
In Italy SELEX Communications is implementing a national mobile radio network, based on the TETRA standard. SELEX Communications TETRA has already been adopted by the Emilia Romagna region and by the cities of Naples, Cagliari and Milan, with a possible extension throughout Lombardy region. Moreover, TETRA is operating in the regions of Basilicata and Campania, as well as in most of Calabria and Piedmont, within the PIT. In addition, last May SELEX Communications has been awarded a tender called by the Veneto Region to supply a TETRA network for the local Police forces, to integrate and boost the regional radio-communication system currently in service.
All over the world, TETRA mobile radio systems are nearly 150 and they are provided in more than 30 different countries.
