SELEX Communications awarded a 4,7 million euros tender to provide the Region of Veneto (Italy) with a TETRA network
SELEX Communications, a Finmeccanica Company, has been awarded a 4.7 million Euros tender called by the Veneto Region (Italy) to supply a TETRA network for the local Police forces, to integrate and boost the regional radio-communication system currently in service.
The new network – including stations for radio links within the 7 districts and the surrounding areas, several operations centers both municipal and provincial and hundreds of transreceiving devices – will allow more effective and reliable digital radio links within the territory, starting from the most denselypopulated areas of Veneto. This system will foster interoperability and coordination between regional services and will enable innovatory applications based on data communications, in addition to voice communications.
“Thanks to TETRA, the Venetian radio-communication system becomes a point of reference to other Italian regions in terms of performance, public utilities and development of investments” – Giancarlo Grasso, SELEX Communications CEO, has stated – “From now on, the Veneto Region can assure its operators a higher level of radio coverage as well as a service availability at any time and in any circumstances, guaranteeing protection and effectiveness to its citizens as regards emergency management and anti-criminality actions”.
In Italy, SELEX Communications is implementing a national mobile radio network, based on the TETRA standard. SELEX Communications TETRA has already been adopted by the Emilia Romagna region and by the cities of Naples, Cagliari and Milan, with a possible extension throughout Lombardy region. Moreover, TETRA is utterly operating in the regions of Basilicata and Campania, as well as in most of Calabria and Piedmont, within the PIT (Tetra Inter-police Program) for a Police forces national network.
All over the world, TETRA mobile radio systems are nearly 150 and they are provided in more than 30 different countries.
