Russian Railways Surge Forward with Sepura Radio Terminals

Sepura has won a third prestigious order from rail transport giant, Russian Railways. Responsible for almost 80% of the country’s rail transportation network, Russian Railways will use Sepura SRH3500 hand-held radios and SRM2000 mounted mobile units on its Moscow to St. Petersburg line. The contract was won in conjunction with Globalsvyaz, one of Sepura’s authorised distributors in Russia.

The Sepura terminals will be used for inter-train communication between drivers, as well as for communication with maintenance staff and station duty officers. The terminals will also support critical data transmissions between trains and the rail network’s automated-control systems. Sepura terminals also offer a standard peripheral equipment interface (PEI), which is of paramount importance for integration with the TETRA applications operated by Russian Railways.

“Sepura was the only supplier able to offer terminals with 10 W output RF power for the 440 to 473 MHz band, the government-approved frequency for Russian Railways,” confirms Dmitry Alpatov, Deputy General Manager at Globalsvyaz.

Sepura began supplying TETRA terminals to Russian Railways since 2003, and the improvements in voice quality, range of features and data transmission functions they provide have contributed to a significant increase in the efficiency of rail operations and the safety of train movements. This latest order further corroborates the versatility of Sepura radio products in such a demanding operating environment.
