Rohill part of a successful BIO-GARDEN Exercise of Preparation of the national and international response to a Bioterrorist attack

As part of the Biological Light Fieldable laboratory for Emergencies (B-LiFE) consortium Rohill has participated in a successful exercise of preparation of national and international response to a Bioterrist attack in Belgium on the 19th of June.

The objective of B-LiFE Demonstration project, founded by ESA,  to develop a rapid deployable system  capable of  bringing a diagnostic as close as possible to a crisis area, providing an essential element of fast emergency response while preserving the safety of deployed staff and surrounding populations. B-LiFE is receiving information and field samples for analysis and delivers the results to the stakeholders. For an optimal interaction, all relevant information is delivered in a timely manner to the right stakeholder, with accurate geo-location information and in a secured way through an autonomous and robust satellite communication system.

B-LiFE was already successfully deployed in Guinea to fight the 2014-2015 Ebola epidemics and is now a sustainable operational service integrated and certified in the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism. Considering the success of the Demonstration project, users have requested to extend the B-LiFE capacities with new telecommunication and crisis management assets. The Demonstration project is extend by a change notification which will enable the B-LIFE consortium to develop a new Field Communication and Control System, integrating space assets with increased capacities and new tools for crisis and logistics management.

The main idea of this development extension is using LTEtraNode platform by Rohill to provide for users/stakeholders services of narrowband (TETRA services) and broadband (VoLTE, MCPTT) communications simultaneously. SES satellite link is used as a backbone for a deployment site in this case.

Rohill will implement its TeamLink ecosystem for seamless operation of voice, text, status, location, picture and video transfer over broadband networks. Rohill has developed a specific IPR that is essential to the robustness and speed of operation when interconnection communication networks over high-delay networks, which is definitely the case for satellite communications. In addition, the concept of distributed call management allows for seamless operation, whether links are available or not. Furthermore, integration of local and remote TETRA, PMR and Telephony networks is supported, providing scalability and interoperability during incidents and disasters.

Lenard Molhoek, Product Manager at Rohill, comments: “We are very proud to contribute to the B-LiFE project as part of a highly specialized and experienced consortium. Delivering our TETRA-LTE solution to B-LiFE will be vital to ensure communication and an optimal information exchange between users and stakeholders.”
