Rohde & Schwarz to supply network for Kuwait National Petroleum Company
Munich/Bad Mnder, May 07, 2009 — Rohde & Schwarz Professional Mobile Radio and the Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC), one of the world’s largest oil companies, signed a contract on March 30, 2009, for the delivery of a TETRA radio system. The project’s volume amounts to 5.7 million. Setup of the network is scheduled to be completed by April 2010.
Rohde & Schwarz Professional Mobile Radio will provide the state-owned Kuwaiti oil company, KNPC, with an ACCESSNET-T TETRA network featuring latest-generation base stations (DIB-R4) and redundant exchanges (DMX-R2). The order also includes explosion-proof terminals for 1650 users. KNPC employees will communicate using the digital radio system from Rohde & Schwarz, ensuring fault-free and safe operation of the refineries. In addition, ACCESSNET-T will provide smooth communications when the crude oil is loaded onto ships and tankers.
“Our longstanding business relations with the Kuwait National Petroleum Company have stood the test of time. We are very pleased that this important customer has again chosen a product from our company for establishing a digital radio network,” says Dr. Georg Haubs, President and CEO of Rohde & Schwarz Professional Mobile Radio GmbH. “The order from one of the world’s largest oil companies strengthens our position as an internationally leading provider of communications infrastructures for the oil and gas industry.”
Since the end of December 2008, the Rohde & Schwarz subsidiary specializing in professional mobile radio systems has traded under the name “Rohde & Schwarz Professional Mobile Radio GmbH.” The new name embodies the international term for the business field of the former R&S BICK Mobilfunk GmbH and positions the company even better on the global market.
