Motorola to Provide TETRA Radio Network for Taiwan Tao-Yuan Airport Link Transit System
Taiwan’s national airport rail transit system will deploy Motorola’s TETRA system for mission critical and public safety communications
TAIPEI, Taiwan – 26 June, 2007 –Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) announced today that the company has won a contract from Marubeni Corporation to provide a TETRA (TErrestrial Trunked RAdio) digital radio communications system to the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (formerly Chiang Kai Shek Airport) rail transit network.
The Taoyuan Airport Link Transit System will deploy Motorola’s TETRA technology hardware, software, services and maintenance together with Motorola Dimetra IP system that allows for the provisioning of higher data speeds to support the integration of advanced mobile data solutions.
Besides providing day-to-day digital radio links across the airport’s rail transit system, a key driver that led to the selection of Motorola’s well-established and resilient TETRA system was the need to ensure public safety for the 29 million passengers that Taoyuan serves every year.
Reliable seamless mobility on the ground will enable effective disaster response plans during drills as well as in the event of unexpected natural disaster.
Marubeni Corporation said Motorola’s TETRA radio system was able to meet the strict requirements of public security authorities on dispatch and command system applications.
“The TETRA digital radio system is expected to greatly improve the operational efficiency and commuter safety. This is important to enable competent control, fast response and instant real-time access to critical information. It will help the public transportation to evolve into the digital era.”said Marubeni Corporation.
“Mobile communications are playing an important role in today’s transport industry and Motorola delivers complete turnkey TETRA radio solutions to customers like Taoyuan International Airport,”said Johnny Chen, senior sales manager, Enterprise Mobility Solutions, Motorola Taiwan.
“The Motorola TETRA system offers highly flexible workgroup communications to co-ordinate rail transport operations, provides real-time intelligence to work crews and keeps passengers with up-to-date travel information.”said Chen.
Motorola Dimetra IP is an enhanced IP-based TETRA solution that is highly flexible and scalable and is able to support voice, messaging, and mobile applications–including remote access to information databases and image transmission–over a single network.
Building on Motorola’s public safety heritage and leading position within the TETRA market, the Taiwan deal also reflects the growing demand for Motorola TETRA solutions in the industrial, commercial and transportation markets.
Motorola is committed to innovation on the TETRA platform including the creation of applications and the development of TETRA II, the next-generation TETRA network specification designed to facilitate higher speed data transfers.
