* Motorola leads Danish TETRA terminal market
Glostrup, Denmark – 26. August 2010 – The Motorola Solutions business of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT), a world leading provider of mission critical communications solutions, today announced that it has won a tender to supply a diverse and extensive portfolio of TETRA digital radio terminals and services to 1,500 fire officers across 19 of Southern Denmark’s 22 municipalities. The solutions will enable the fire services to move easily from analog to digital communication by providing intuitive devices with better performance in voice and data transmission, increased efficiency through remote terminal management and reliability through secure encrypted communications. Additionally, fire brigades will be able to communicate with a touch of a button across mission-critical agencies on the nationwide SINE network. This will help fire brigades secure the safety of more than 1 million citizens in Southern Denmark. The first radios will be rolled out late 2010.
“Fire services in Southern Denmark are aiming towards a modernisation of their communications technology. Following a competitive tender that included extensive trials, we selected Motorola’s digital TETRA terminal solutions,” said Sren Ipsen, fire chief in Kolding Municipality and Leader of the steering group for the Fire Chiefs in Southern Denmark. “Motorola’s intuitive devices offer our personnel superior sound and voice quality and a compelling customer service portfolio with training program, a customer helpdesk as well as an Integrated Terminal Management (iTM) solution. With iTM, we are now able to run software updates remotely, so the fire services will have the latest features enabled on their devices to fulfill their mission.”
Motorola will supply a number of rugged terminal solutions such as the portable enhanced TETRA control head, the MTM800E, as well as the compact, lightweight MTP850S that uses some of the highest quality digital communication and will also benefit from the intuitive mobile phone style interface. A ‘Man Down’ feature that sends an alert to the dispatcher if the radio does not move in a given period of time or tilts past a defined angle will increase user safety. Motorola will also supply the class leading MTP810Ex and MTP850Ex ATEX radios designed for hazardous environments containing potentially explosive gas and dust. For example, these will be used by smoke divers who are deployed to deal with fires in remote areas. The radios, which will be rolled out in early 2011, will communicate over Denmark’s nationwide digital TETRA SINE Network.
The rugged, intuitively operated products from Motorola already undergo extensive tests during the development phase in order to ensure handling even under extreme conditions.
Motorola will also supply its Integrated Terminal Management (iTM) Solution that will allow each municipality to remotely and efficiently manage the software and configurations of every radio terminal from a central location. The iTM remote programming system improves the speed and reliability with which software updates can be carried out, contributing to officer safety as well as efficient management and security of the terminals.
“We are delighted to supply the municipalities of Southern Denmark with such an extensive range of mission critical solutions that confirm Motorola as the leading supplier of TETRA solutions in Denmark,” said Jens Kristiansen, vice president and general manager, TETRA Global Products and Solutions, Motorola Solutions. “Our intrinsically safe digital solutions will enable fire services personnel to focus on the job at hand and link up with other emergency services seamlessly in any situation.”
The Motorola TETRA portfolio includes infrastructure solutions, terminals, applications and services which are now used in more than 100 countries worldwide. To date, the company has been able to maintain its leading position in the sector of TETRA digital radio solutions. The rugged, intuitively operated products from Motorola already undergo extensive tests during the development phase in order to ensure high quality and reliable handling even under extreme conditions.
