Kazakhstan’s capital city moves forward with Sepura radios

The municipal and government services of Astana, Kazakhstan’s capital city, has selected Sepura TETRA digital radios for their advanced communications requirements.

This customer win was made possible by Global Novicom, Sepura’s local partner in Kazakhstan, which is also responsible for the deployment of the commercial TETRA network in Astana.

Sepura terminals will operate in the Kazakhstan capital on the commercial TETRA network set up by Global Novicom. This is part of the initial phase of introducing a digital network that will eventually cover the main 16 cities of Kazakhstan and will be used by government and commercial organisations.

The order comprises over 500 Sepura radios including Sepura SRH3800 sGPSTMhand-held radios, SRM3500 mobile and SRG3500 mobile gateway. This gateway function enables hand-held terminals to connect to the network in areas where TETRA network coverage is poor or non-existent.

It follows previous sales wins for Sepura in this vast oil-rich country sandwiched between Russia and China. Other contracts have been for the Ministry of Defence of Kazakhstan and the police force of the old capital city of Almaty.

Sepura TETRA radios will be used for voice and data communications, in particular for AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location), telemetry and remote database access. A further advantage is that data is shown in the Cyrillic alphabet.

Asylbek Karabaev,General Director for Global Novicom, said: “The customer chose Sepura radios for their high levels of quality, functionality and proven reliability. The wide range of functions and accessories available, combined with the ergonomic design of the radio, fully matched the requirements of the users.”

Alexander Miskin, CIS Country Manager for Sepura, added: “Once again it’s a privilege for Sepura to assist the government of Kazakhstan. By working closely with municipal organisations world-wide, Sepura has developed solutions that meet the specific communications needs of teams working together for their local communities.”
