Gdynia Container Terminal in Poland chooses Sepura’s STP8000

One of the largest container terminals in the Harbour of Gdynia in Poland has extended its fleet of Sepura radios to maximise the efficiency of its cargo handling. This further contract with the Polish container port was again made possible by Icom Poland, Sepura’s established partner in Poland.

Gdynia is a major container port in the Baltic region. Three years ago it embarked on a series of investment programmes to convert the terminal into a modern container-handling facility. The TETRA communications system, including Sepura hand-held and mobile radios, was an integral part of this modernisation process.

Gdynia, with a capacity of 750,000 TEU (Twenty Feet Equivalent Unit), serves the growing feeder-container market from Poland to major North European ports. Benefiting from its strategic location, Gdynia also acts as a transhipment hub for feeder-container services in the Baltic Sea, from Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.

Mr. Andrzej Barganski, IT Manager at Gdynia Container Terminal commented: “We chose the Sepura STP8000 as this radio is the perfect fit for use in the harshest environments. Indeed, container port workers operate in all weather conditions and in extremely noisy surroundings”.

Mr. Marcin Piasecki, Director of Icom Poland added “In particular, the radio’s water and dust resistance, its high audio and high RF power were critical factors for this follow up order”.

Kenneth Hubner, Regional Sales Director for Sepura commented: “Ports and large manufacturing plants worldwide are progressively embracing TETRA communications. This second order from Gdynia further strengthens our relationship with this prestigious customer. This is another significant step towards developing our presence in this market.”
