EADS to supply TETRA mobile radio network in Hong Kong for MTR Corporation.

World-class MTR to use the network for further improvement of communications.

Perceived benefits: safety, reliability, service quality, and efficiency.

June 12th 2007 – EADS Secure Networks will provide a digital TETRA radio communication system to cover all MTR metro stations (except Disneyland Resort Line) in Hong Kong. EADS Secure Networks will join hands with CLP Engineering Limited to provide a complete solution for the Radio Systems Replacement in MTR.

MTR Corporation is renowned for its World-class Quality of Service. It owns and operates a 91-km passenger railway network in Hong Kong which is geographically divided into three areas and consists of seven railway lines, namely Tung Chung Line, Airport Express, Island Line, Tsuen Wan Line, Kwun Tong Line, Tseung Kwan O Line and Disneyland Resort Line. The new TETRA network will provide seamless mobile radio coverage for the Operations Control Centre and all stations except the Disneyland Resort Line, including the entire metro tunnels as well as the depots.

Partnering with CLP Engineering, EADS is responsible for the design and supply of the complete TETRA system including digital switches, base stations and terminals. CLP Engineering will integrate the EADS TETRA system with an advanced Digital Recording System, an RFID system and a Public Address System interface to build the entire network for MTR. Besides, a number of mission critical applications will be implemented via the EADS TETRA system with the prime objective to facilitate flexible daily operation in MTR in order to ensure continuous monitoring of train radio communications of each railway line.

Deliveries will start during the second half of 2008, and the first parts of the system will be operational in 2009.

Transportation companies worldwide are facing new challenges. Competition between transportation companies force them to invest into modern and cost effective operational tools, customer oriented services and state-of-the-art information media.

In the new radio communications system, MTR was looking for more advanced features, a better way to manage the talk groups, as well as the possibility to integrate the system with the Automatic Train Supervision System, a Public Address System and Radio Frequency Identification System. Capability for wireless data is another benefit for their future business plan.

“The requirements for the new digital trunking system are very high. MTR also acts as consultant in this professional industry in China and Asia. The requirements translated into new development of features in EADS TETRA to benefit all other customers in the future”. said Franois Begaud, CEO, EADS Secure Networks Asia.
