EADS Defence & Security together with the State of Qatar open a TETRA competence centre in Doha

  • Cornerstone for the Ministry of Interior to operate the Qatar TETRA network
  • First TETRA competence centre in the Middle East

29 March 2010 – EADS Defence & Security and the Ministry of Interior (MoI) of the State of Qatar have opened a common TETRA competence centre in Doha established under the leadership of the Minister of State for Interior Affairs H.E. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al Thani. It’s the first of its kind in the Middle East.

The MoI uses this competence centre for the training of the engineers of its telecommunication department. The goal is to acquire the capacity to fully operate the Qatar Secure TETRA Radio System (QSTRS).

“This first TETRA competence centre in the Middle East is a great reference for us. It is an essential step in building both theoretical and practical know-how locally for operating the Qatar TETRA network,” said Dirk Borchardt, Head of Security & Communication Solutions at EADS Defence & Security.

A joint working group defined the scope, the expected trainee’s profiles and the details of the training modules, in line with MoI ramp-up plans. EADS Defence & Security delivered the TETRA equipments needed for the centre to establish a training academy. Trainers from EADS Defence & Security transfer the technical know-how to the MoI teams. As a counterpart, EADS Defence & Security can use this competence centre to train other customers from the region.

In addition, the MoI is intending to utilise the now existing testbed capabilities to certify third-parties’ platforms and applications that may be considered for usage in the context of the TETRA radio system.
