EADS Defence & Security to provide Madrid region with a secure digital radio network
-The largest TETRA network awarded this year in Spain
-Future-proof TETRA radio network to replace current analogue system
-Modernization of communications for emergency, security and rescue personnel can improve safety for all
18 December 2008– EADS Secure Networks (SN), an integrated activity of EADS Defence & Security (DS), will provide the Autonomous Community of Madrid with a secure radio communications network, which replaces the current analogue network.
On behalf of the Department of Presidency, Justice and Interior of the Autonomous Community of Madrid, Canal de Isabel II awarded the contract to Omnilogic Telecomunicaciones, S.A., which is SN’s Value Added Reseller (VAR) in the area.
This deal concerns one of the largest TETRA projects awarded this year and it will see SN provide a complete TETRA solution with two switches, around 90 TB3 base stations, plus scores of TETRA radio terminals. SN will also support the system roll-out and its maintenance afterwards. Omnilogic will bring into the implementation team their long-term experience in TETRA network integration, acquired in many projects especially in Spain and Latin America. The system is to come into operation in 2009.
With its 6.2 million citizens, Madrid is the third largest autonomous community in Spain, and this new secure radio network can vastly improve the communications between emergency, security and rescue personnel.
The potential users of the network come from the community’s emergency, security and rescue organisations: fire brigades, BESCAM (Madrid autonomous region special security brigades), police forces of different Madrid community towns, as well as civil protection and medical emergency services in Madrid.
The new network is based on the future-proof TETRA technology. It will provide the users with support for information exchange and personal security. The new network has several advantages over the current analogue system, such as security from eavesdropping, new possibilities for data services, and elimination of background noise.
“This is our third TETRA success in Spain within the last 12 months. We share this one with Omnilogic, who has rightly won the trust of the customer,” said Jean-Marc Nasr, President of EADS Secure Networks. “Together, we are committed to implement a radio network that makes it easier for the users to communicate with each other. The new system will be more reliable, more resilient and above all, better suited to their needs.”
