EADS Defence & Security extends its portfolio with new TETRA handheld radio (THR9)
-THR9 introduces new design and extended set of features combined with top-rated ease of use
-Large and sharp QVGA display for best in class viewing experience
-Reliable communication with two battery alternatives: 2000 mAh and 2500 mAh
25 November 2008 –EADS Defence & Security (DS) introduces a new TETRA handheld radio device to the market. The THR9 combines the latest technical advances with the tried-and-tested features that are important for professional users. Its robust design is perfectly suited to the tough operational requirements of the security forces: a clearly laid-out keypad with large keys, a group selector switch in the top part of the device, and its shock, dust and spray-proof construction in compliance with IP55.
Easy-to-follow menus and the unique voice response feature represent the enhanced user interface style that makes the THR9 the easiest to use. The availability of two PTT keys enables the user to assign one key to the command group, for example, and the second to an operational group or the control centre. The THR9 also has a vibrating alert to allow silent notification of incoming calls or messages.
The large high-resolution QVGA display of the THR9 is the sharpest of all TETRA devices. Distinctive graphical icons and symbols and informative texts with clear contrast keep the user up-to-date at one sight in every situation. The display is ideally suited for viewing detailed information such as portraits or maps and for browsing databases, for example. Thanks to state-of-the-art display technology, excellent readability is assured even under varying light conditions.
The repeater functionality of the THR9 helps to extend the communication range between TETRA radios connected to each other in direct mode.
The compact THR9 comes with a wide range of audio accessories, various chargers and a car kit with an automatic connection to an external antenna. The THR9 has excellent battery performance, with an easy and reliable battery connection mechanism and two battery options. The capacity of the standard battery is already excellent, at 2000 mAh, whereas the high capacity battery of 2500 mAh ensures that the device will be ready for a longlasting operation even under the most intensive use.
The Java™ platform of the THR9 enables loading of organisation-specific applications to the radio, providing the users with enhanced mobility and efficiency as they can use their TETRA radio to receive job assignments, query databases or create reports, for example. The large colour display makes all of these operations considerably easy.
Like all other EADS TETRA radio equipment, the THR9 handheld radio devices can be configured and managed using the intelligent terminal management tool Taqto™.
