EADS Defence & Security brings new TETRA mobile radio device onto the market
-Also deployable as a TMO/DMO gateway and DMO repeater
-Increases coverage beyond the TETRA network and inside buildings
25 November 2008 – EADS Defence & Security (DS) has expanded the portfolio of TETRA terminal units with the TGR990 TETRA mobile radio device. The functionalities of the TGR990 were designed for the demands of professional users in the area of public security and rescue services.
The large colour display, the intuitive menu and the various shortcuts – characteristic features of EADS TETRA radios – support smooth operation in changing circumstances.
The TGR990 can operate in 3 modes: as a normal radio device, as gateway between Trunked Mode Operation (TMO) and Direct Mode Operation (DMO) or as DMO repeater.
As TMO/DMO gateway, the TGR990 can be used as a connecting element between users of the normal TETRA radio network and other users in direct mode. In this way the coverage can be extended inside buildings and in the peripheral areas of the TETRA network. With the help of TGR990 TMO/DMO gateway fire-fighters tackling a fire inside a building in direct mode can communicate with their colleagues outside the building.
In direct mode the terminal devices can communicate with each other directly, without an available TETRA network. As DMO repeater, the TGR990 can increase the range and sustain contact by acting as a relay unit between users operating outside the radio coverage area or within buildings, tunnels and basements, for example.
The compact TGR990 terminal includes a radio transceiver and a control unit with keypad and display and it complies with the standard size radio slot found in vehicles. Thanks to a comprehensive set of installation kits, the TGR990 can be mounted in many different types of vehicles, also with the radio unit being placed apart from the control unit. An additional desktop console is also available for use in the office. Various interfaces enable the TGR990 to be connected to and controlled from a PC or external data terminal.
The TGR990 is compatible with the advanced terminal programming and management tool Taqto™.
