Motorola and Dansk Beredskabskommunikation A/S to deliver nationwide TETRA technology, operation, maintenance and services for Danish public safety network
COPENHAGEN, Denmark – 02 August 2007 – Dansk Beredskabskommunikation A/S, a subsidiary of Motorola, has been selected by the Danish Government as the preferred supplier for a nationwide public safety communications service. The 10-year ‘build-own-operate’ contract is worth approximately 1.6bn DKK (US $289m).
The network, called SINE1, will improve cooperation and integration among Denmark’s public safety agencies, which will enable more effective incident response and help increase the security and safety for Danish citizens. It will replace more than 100 independent radio networks currently being used by Denmark’s public safety services.
As the service providers in this 10 year ‘build-own-operate’ contract, Dansk Beredskabskommunikation A/S and Motorola are responsible for the equipment supply, rollout, installation and ongoing operation of the nationwide network as a managed service. The network will be based on Motorola’s Dimetra IP technology.
To ensure the new network will meet user requirements, the tender has been managed in close cooperation with representatives from future user groups.
“We’ve learned from other countries that the implementation of a shared public safety network is an extremely complex task. The dialog with users during the implementation process is a prerequisite for success,” said Henrik Pinholt, director of the Danish Agency for Governmental Management. “We are pleased to have completed the tender process and to have implementation of the shared network underway.”
The first phase of the roll-out, due for the first half of 2008, will involve all relevant public safety agencies on the islands of Lolland and Falster. The roll-out will continue on a regional basis and is scheduled to be completed within three years.
Bo Wassberg, managing director of Dansk Beredskabskommunikation A/S, added: “We have made an immediate start with the implementation and look forward to working closely with the Danish government and the individual user groups.”
This latest contract builds on Motorola’s public safety heritage, its leading position within the TETRA market and its track record in delivering mission critical managed services. Motorola has delivered over 300 TETRA contracts across more than 65 countries, in both public safety and commercial environments.
The revenue from the contract will be recognized over the ten year period of the contract.
