Cambridgeshire renews its contract with Sepura

24 Janaury 2008

Cambridgeshire Constabulary in the UK has renewed its contract with Sepura for the supply of TETRA digital radios.

Among the first to migrate from analogue to TETRA in 2003, Cambridgeshire joins the growing list of UK police forces that are in the process of upgrading their fleets of Sepura radios, to meet new and increasing strategic demands. The contract is for nearly 2000 units, comprising SRH3800 sGPS™ hand-held and SRG3500 vehicle Gateway radios.

Cambridgeshire’s new radios all have GPS, which will deliver enhance officer safety and improve operational efficiency.

Insp James Trotter, Airwave Technical Manager for Cambridgeshire, said: “Renewing our fleet of Sepura radios with the introduction of GPS is a huge step forward for us. It enables the roll out of APLS (automatic person location) system, for all radio users. The health and safety of our staff is paramount, so that when an emergency button is pressed, an officer’s precise location can be instantly pinpointed, to allow the deployment of rapid support.”

“GPS will also improve operational performance, by immediately identifying the most appropriate resource to respond swiftly to an individual incident.”

“Over the last five years Sepura radios have met our needs, both in terms of the performance of the products and customer support. During this time we’ve also had a first-class working relationship which we’re very happy to continue” he added.

In addition to gaining the benefit of GPS, the new vehicle-based radios incorporate a Gateway functionality. This means that communications for all hand-held radios can be maintained when they are beyond the reach of network coverage, but are within range of vehicle coverage.

David Taylor, Sepura’s UK Sales Director, added: “I am delighted with this new order from one of our oldest customers. It is a reflection of our product quality, product innovation and the market-leading customer support that we provide.”
