Bulgarian Border Police opt for TETRA radios from EADS Defence &Security

  • More than 4000 radios to be used for guarding Bulgarian state borders
  • Long-term cooperation of EADS Defence and Security with Bulgarian authorities continues

19 March 2010 – The Bulgarian Ministry of Finance has awarded EADSDefence & Security a second contract to supply TETRA radios for theBulgarian Border Police. The previous contract in 2008 was for more than2500 TETRA radios.

This order covers the delivery of more than 3100 robust and easy-to-useTHR880i handheld TETRA radios and 950 TMR880i mobile radios, includingaccessories, documentation and training. The radios will be delivered andtaken into service in the course of 2010.

The new radios will enable the Bulgarian Border Police to communicatesafely and securely in their own language, as both the THR880i andTMR880i radios come with a user interface and voice feedback in Bulgarian. Both radio models have a similar design, features and menus, so users caneasily learn how to use the radios and switch from one model to another.

EADS Defence & Security has already delivered the complete TETRA radionetwork which is currently in use by the Bulgarian Ministry of Interior and forwhich the cooperation dates back to 2002.

Easy to use – “This is a strong sign of confidence in us and our ability to goon providing state-of-the-art TETRA solutions to Bulgaria. Ease of use hasclearly been a preferred characteristic, given that demanding tasks such asthose of the Bulgarian Border Police require concentration on the task, not onthe equipment,” said Dirk Borchardt, Head of Security & CommunicationSolutions at EADS Defence & Security.
