Axell Wireless Wins the Contract to Provide an Enhanced Radio Distribution Solution to Stockholm Metro

Axell Wireless has been awarded the contract to deliver a turnkey wireless coverage solution for the Stockholm Metro. AB Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL) the Stockholm Local transportation provider awarded the contract for Enhanced Radio Distribution in the Metro to Axell Wireless in August.

“The award of this contract demonstrates that Axell Wireless has become a stronger partner after the merger between Avitec AB and Aerial Facilities Limited (AFL). The new company with its broader portfolio and enhanced expertise can deliver to our customers a more complete range of seamless, wireless communication solutions.” Ian Brown, CEO at Axell Wireless comments.

The contract encompasses supply, installation and commissioning of the equipment which includes fibre optic repeaters, optical master units, combiners, antennas, and power supplies along with installation of radiating cable in the ticket halls and above the escalators.

The solution, which includes a completely redundant system to minimise the effects of a system malfunction, is used to provide a number of network services, including:

RAKEL, TETRA network deployed for organisations in Sweden working with public order, public security and public health.

Busskom, TETRA network used by SL.

FM radio.

Option to provide CDMA450 coverage.

Axell Wireless will also provide service and maintenance of the system for a period of 10 years.

All of the equipment is being manufactured at the Axell Wireless production facility in the UK, from where it will be delivered in three phases; the equipment will be installed in around 72 metro stations. The delivery time-plan is very concentrated as everything needs to be delivered, commissioned and handed over to SL at the beginning of March 2009.
