Another French town selects TETRA and Sepura

Sepura TETRA digital radios continue to grow in popularity among municipal authorities in France with Vnissieux, a suburb of Lyon, the latest to join the list.

The municipality needed a communications network that is secure without risk of eavesdropping and with radios that are easy to use, mostly by local police.

In an order secured by SYSOCO, Sepura’s partner in France, Vnissieux follows the lead of towns that have all chosen Sepura, such as Le Havre, Chambry, Nmes, Aix en Provence and Nantes as well as the local transport system in Lyon.

Vnissieux, which has a population of almost 60,000, will use SRH3500 handheld radios and both SRG3500 and SRM3500 vehicle radios which benefit from GPS to plot the location of each radio to both a central station and to other users. This information is displayed for the radio dispatcher on a SYSOCO mapping application that reduces response times in deploying police to an emergency.

The vehicle radios also have Gateway functionality to overcome areas of poor radio coverage – which is important in the town that has tunnels, buildings, car parks and underground areas where radio coverage may be insufficient.

Furthermore, the radios have the advantage of Talk Group functionality so that individual groups or teams can talk in unison, either through voice or data, to increase the speed of communication.

Pierre Letta, Marketing Director for SYSOCO, said: “The decision-makers of Vnissieux saw how well Sepura radios had worked for the other local French police forces. They also learnt how other towns in France have been impressed with Sepura. Importantly, Vnissieux wanted radios that ensured complete and continuous coverage – and that’s where the Gateway functionality scored heavily.”

Richard Redgrave, Regional Sales Director for Sepura, added: “This is another instance of how the message of Sepura and TETRA is continuing to spread around France.”
